About two years ago, there was an initiative brought before NHS called AAIMS. After being accepted by this program, Northside was chosen to be one of 30 high schools in the state to receive private funds from the AAIMS program, primarily funded by Exxon. What this initiative did was push more kids into the AP program. Today was a celebration of an overwhelming response by our students to rise to the challenge. For me, AAIMS proved that far too many times, we make excuses for students instead of giving them the support to reach higher and learn deeper. There is a national agency that monitors the college board AP scores and that agency each year selects one school to highlight as a leader in the advanced placement program. Northside was that recipient this year. Today, Governor Beebe and the VP for Exxon Mobil along with NMSI, the national agency visited our campus and praised the student body for the work they did last year and the scores they received. There were so many 2010 graduates that are now in college and couldn’t come back for the ceremony, but I thought of them today. Here’s a slideshow….don’t ask me why I didn’t get a picture of me and the governor…..too busy snapping I guess?

We had a super fun slippery slide good time over the weekend with Bryant’s friends from church and school. He has loved the toy story movie, but didn’t have any of the classic toys from the movie…until now!
