Friendship

I’ve been blessed so much in my life. I value girlfriends so much and yesterday was such a breath of fresh air. We met up to send Kerry (my college roomate) to Kenya for lifelong ministry. We all joked that if we would have said 15 years ago that Kerry Chandler would be heading to Africa with her family to do mission work…well let’s just say that would not have been said! ha! We had a great time catching up about families, but more importantly we took time to really think about the way Kerry’s been living the last two months. She has sacrificed everything from her house to even some family relationships….We all listened to the Tim McGraw song, Live like you’re dying…the lyrics are great and speak to the fact that we should take advantage of the gift of life. Kerry and Tom are going to a relatively safe part of Kenya to serve and lead African Christian Outreach, a ministry started by Tom’s dad a generation ago with the help of the IMB. Now Kerry and Tom will be dependent on private donors to continue this ministry. If you want to see more of their work you can follow them at tomandkerryinkenya.blogspot.com. Though the financial burden is high and they are dependant on God’s sovereignty, they covet prayers from   the faithful even more. They will be working primarily through the colleges in Kenya, specifically in Nakuru. They spend much of their time disciplining young Christians in the faith. Kerry hopes to take teams into orphanages as well, there in Nakuru. We ended our visit yesterday by taking her prayer requests to our Savior. Some of her requests are safety from a corrupt police there in Kenya, education for Reagan (5) and Sydney (7), health insurance concerns, and their impact through ACO, African Christian Outreach. I am so thankful for our time—we spent several days earlier this month here at my home, and then again yesterday with a lot of our college friends. Kerry will make a global impact for truth and I am so proud of her. Please visit their site and give them encouragement as they begin their journey on July 6.
